Abstract

The Arabs excelled in the mathematical sciences and excelled in them, adding important additions to them that aroused admiration and astonishment among Western scholars. They recognized the Arabs’ merit and their great impact on the progress of science and civilization.

The Arabs put many books on arithmetic, and the Westerners translated some of them and learned from them, and they had the greatest impact on his progress. The Arabs had a special method in performing some arithmetic operations, and they mentioned many methods for each of them. Among these methods is what is specific to beginners and what is correct to be taken as a means of education.

For the purpose of shedding light on the role of the Arabs in the advancement of mathematics in the curriculum followed by our nation’s scholars, the original scientific method based on innovation supported by experience, including Ibn Al-Haym Al-Maqdisi, one of the greatest mathematicians and the author of many authorships in this science, where he was known for his sober approach in arithmetic and his tendency to practical applications in conducting Arithmetic operations of calculating areas, yields and inheritances.

The research is divided into an introduction, three chapters, a conclusion, and a list of sources and references. In the first topic, we reviewed: Arithmetic among the Arabs. The second topic: The biography and life of Ibn Al-Haim Al-Maqdisi. As for the third topic: The book of aid in aerial arithmetic, and then the conclusion that contains the most important findings. The researcher, then a list of sources and references, which were arranged according to the alphabetical sequence of the Arabic letter.

The contributions of Arab mathematicians varied, whether with original scientific innovations or important additions, in addition to their work to correct many of the theories and previous results for them. The Arab contributions included all branches of mathematics from arithmetic, algebra, geometry and trigonometry.

The Arabs rendered a great service to the world by their refinement and unification of numbers and the scientific use of zero, which greatly facilitated arithmetic operations and was a great motive in the development of other sciences, in addition to their invention of decimal fractions and their use of the comma and their research in negative numbers centuries before the West. In arithmetic, researchers have been impressed.
