Abstract

The aim of the current study is to “construct a computerized question bank for biology for the third intermediate grade according to the two parameter model.” To achieve this goal, the researcher analyzed the content of all biology chapters for the third intermediate grade according to the theory of latent traits. Then, the researcher presented the behavioral objectives, test items and alternatives to a group of experts and arbitrators to ensure the availability of appropriate characteristics for them and their alternatives in terms of form and content. The researcher took the modifications proposed by experts (biology teachers) and arbitrators (in the field of measurement, evaluation and educational psychology). All test items and their behavioral objectives reached to (402) test items for the 14 biology chapters.

The researcher computerized the question bank by programmer engineers, then the researcher applied the test to the third intermediate grade students in the schools affiliated to the province of Babylon on a sample of (1000) male and female students who were chosen by the simple random method, and the researcher used the (STATA) program to analyze the test items. To verify the hypotheses of the model, the researcher followed the following:

First: One-dimensionality: To verify this hypothesis, the researcher conducted a factorial analysis of the test using the Kaiser variable maximization method (Varimax), so he produced one general factor in each test whose values were greater than (1) and the proportions of the explained variance for each of them. The same factor on the lower limits of (Getman), which the factor is statistically significant when the potential root that can be interpreted is equal to or greater than (1), and (30.0) and above were adopted as the percentage of saturation of the test items with the general factor according to the criterion ( Gilford), and through the results of the factor analysis, no item of the test was excluded, and thus the test consisted of (154) test items.

Second: Test of good fit: the data for the complete sample of (1000) individuals were analyzed and (154) test items were analyzed for the computerized question bank tests

Third: Measurement independence: By achieving the independence of measurement, , where the test consists of (140) test items in its final form.

  • The (difficulty, standard error, and ability) were transferred from the logit unit to the manf unit, where the manf unit is equal to (5 * logit + 50).
  • The cut-off score was determined for the computerized question bank consisting of five tests, comprising (140) test items, using the Angof method.

Fourth: Signs of validity and reliability: The validity of the test was verified through descriptive validity (the opinions of experts and arbitrators at all stages of preparing the computerized question bank) and functional honesty through indicators of appropriateness of item to the model used, as the statistics of Kai (Ka2) were used to judge the appropriateness of the items, and the discrimination coefficient was calculated. It is considered one of the indicators of construction validity, as well as extracting the factor analysis and the correlation of the paragraph with the total score, which measures the concept.

The internal consistency stability coefficient of the scale items, in its final form consisting of (140) items, was calculated using the Cronbach’s alpha-Cronbach equation, and it reached (0.83), using the Statistical Package Program (SPSS), and it indicates that the computerized question bank has an acceptable degree of reliability.
