Abstract:

       This study dealt with the political developments in the Ottoman Empire and their impact on the cities of Iraq in general and the city of Nasiriya in particular. The formation of secret societies and parties in the cities of Iraq had an impact on the awareness of citizens and raising them to a state of enthusiasm as a result of the activities of these parties and associations throughout Iraq and their impact on the city of Nasiriya in a way Especially since the founders of associations and parties in Iraq come from various social strata of Iraqi society, as they had the greatest role in sharpening the Iraqis’ determination to spread national awareness within the cities of Iraq, especially the city of Nasiriya, as its people had a role or affiliation with those organizations or parties or through friendships that link Some of the city’s residents are with the leaders of those associations and parties. Non-traditional intellectuals have emerged in Iraq as well, who understand the law, know languages, and are fluent in using and supervising modern machines, i.e. printers, and even improving many of the skills they acquired through their contact with Europeans outside Iraq, and this new category affected the traditional intellectuals in Iraq, the majority of whom focused on issues of jurisprudence and literature, made them adopt new values To keep pace with the spirit of the age, and they had their influential contributions in the field of national awareness and the increase in the number of intellectuals. The press had an important role and was considered as a main tool for expressing the ideas of the new intellectuals. The echo of this cultural renaissance extended to all cities and squares of Iraq and its intellectuals and those looking to freedom and from those Nasiriya cities and that this situation as a whole Creating a new society in the cities in general and imposing a fixed base of new ideas, opinions and attitudes that differ radically from what was prevalent. The national awareness has pervaded the cities of Iraq and extended to include a class of the society of the city of Nasiriya.
